How to Disable Live Update Function in MetaTrader 4
Recently, I have published an article regarding the bug with Meta Trader 4 build 418 where I described how to downgrade it to the previous stable version. A lot of traders followed my advices but faced a new problem. The Meta Trader live update module consistently requests traders to update their terminals every time they open the platform. In some way, it can be annoying and there is no confidence that the updated version is not buggy and all your trading software (expert advisors, indicators, etc.) will be working correctly with it. And I found one simple way of how to disable that auto-update function.
So, when you launch your Meta Trader 4 platform the Live Update application opens as well informing you that there is a new build version available. What we need is to make this application not operational, in other words, disable it.
In most cases the Live Update execution file is located in the MetaTrader 4 platform folder. If you decide to disable an auto-update feature of your MT4, you should do the following:
- Open the root folder of your platform (C:\Program Files\Your MetaTrader 4)
- Search for Live Update execution file (liveupdate.exe)
- Rename it by adding any symbol or a word to it, for example, liveupdate.exe- (dash is added)

If the liveupdate.exe file is not in the root folder, it can be found under the name of UpdatePlatform.exe in the “config” folder of the platform (C:\Program Files\Your MetaTrader 4\config)

In this case, the same actions need to be applied.
In case you decide to update MetaTrader 4 platform, all you need to do is to rename the file back to liveupdate.exe (or UpdatePlatform.exe)
P.S.: If the article helped you, share it with your friends.

Thanks VERY much.
There’s always some high annoyance in every widely-used software,
and very few and difficult-to-find ways to stop it.
You’re one of the few people who help combat this.
